Reykjavík City Library – Kringlan Culture House

Kringlan Culture House is situated between Kringlan and the Reykjavík City Theatre. As well as providing normal library services, Kringlan Culture House hosts book readings and other reading and cultural activities.

The library

The library was opened in the wing that connects Kringlan and the Reykjavík City Theatre on 27^th June 2001. Occupying a total of 740 m², the library houses about 65,000 books in addition to providing magazines for all age groups, audiobooks, language courses, multimedia material, comics, CDs, videos and DVDs. The library has a special collection of theatre literature and other material connected to acting and other aspects of the theatre. There is also a good selection of books on cinema and dance.

Service

The library runs an information service where visitors can gain access to several Icelandic and international databases. Story-telling sessions and library tours can be booked for groups. Computer online access is provided at a small cost. There is also a hotspot for visitors who prefer to use their own laptops.

Access and facilities

The library provides a comfortable environment to browse newspapers and other material. Coffee is available.

Facilities for the handicapped are excellent and there is wheelchair access from Kringlan’s lower carpark by Reykjavík City Theatre. Several bus routes serve Kringlan: routes S3 and S6 stop at Miklabraut; routes S1 and S2 stop at Kringlymýrabraut: routes 13 and 14 stop at Reykjavík City Theatre.
